Here the Mediterranean Sea pervades every nook and cranny of this coastal town, dominated by the historic castle where the epic film ‘El Cid’ was made, and ancient Spanish culture pervades. 

With its shape described as  ‘a boat stranded at sea’ to its narrow winding streets of white houses appearing to slide down to the sea, restrained only by the ancient solid city walls, this castle town is a gem of natural beauty.
